September was a memorable month for members of the Youth, Senior & Master sections as all 3 competed at Rescue 2016 in Noordwijk, The Netherlands
Masters kicked off the competition in what started out to be typically autumnal weather, so much so that the competition program was altered due to sea conditions! By lunch time on the first of 2 days competing results were already looking fantastic and the sun began to shine! After a busy 2 days of competing the team celebrated some great results with many finals reached, personal bests acheived and medals won Next up came the Senior team, racing over 3 days the Woolacombe team mixed it with the best in the world reaching many finals. A big highlight for the team was crowning Jack Hutchens 2km World Champion after a stella race...celebrations went on long after the competition finished! Lastly rounding off the last days of the 2 week event Woolacombe Youth took the stage. Due to forecasted weather the program was again changed with racing starting a whole day early! Right from the first race Woolacombe Youth proudly flew the flag for Devon being the only county team represented. Over the course of 3 days the team simply excelled, making their way through multiple rounds of racing for each event to finals and even bringing home medals on the sports highest stage. As the sand settled on the last event of Beach Flags the teams last point was won meaning they secured 12th position out of 84 teams from around the world and the highest placed UK Youth team to attend Competition results can be found here: livetiming.lifesaving2016.com
